Thanksgiving Dinner

I think Thanksgiving day is the most important festival for each American family. Because all of the children will go home during this holiday except the international students, like me. For example, my uncle lives in New Jersey and his son who lives in California now fly to home in order to see his parent and celebrate Thanksgiving day with them. My mentor, Charden, go home for one week, too. I think Rosa want international students to experience American Thanksgiving Dinner and invite us to eat dinner with American families. It is cool. I was assign to Dr. O'Keeffe' hose to eat Thanksgiving dinner. She has five children and now she is a grandmother. Her granddaughter is just a six-month girl baby who is so lovely. Before dinner, I sit on the sofa in the living, eat snakes with cheeze and talk to her children. The dinner is very delicious. I eat Turkey with Jellied cranberry, ham, yams with cinema, salad, and green beans. The dish I like most is the homemade bread which Dr O'Keeffe make. It tastes soft and smooth. I admire her cooking skill, especially the dessert. The dessert is excellent, too. I eat pumpkin pie, the cheese cake with ice cream and drink a cup of tea. Oh, it is a wonderful experience that I can remember forever.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the most famous festival all over the world. I believe that the parade of this year must be more spectacular than before because this year is the 80th anniversary of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I feel lucky that I have a good chance to take part in the activity. I had planned to watch the parade in person, but, actually, I did not go there. Because it was so cold and rainy when I got up early at six o'clock morning that I decided to stay at home and watch the television. I saw all shapes of helium-filled balloons, elegant ballet dancers and the singers with beautiful voice showing in front of the Macy's building on TV. The performance was great. I like the snoopy helium-filled balloon very much. Although the height of the balloons this year is not as tall as last year because of the weather, the parade still attracts a lot of viewers. However, I feel a lot disappointed that I did not watch the parade in person. Thus, I swear that I will have to go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade next year.

Yoga Mat

Yoga has become a popular exercise recently. There are many books about yoga selling in the bookstores. Some books introduce the right pose of the yoga, and the others describe that it is benefit for our health to do yoga. I think yoga helps us strengthen our bodies by doing yoga pose and release our tension by inhaling and exhaling. Although I have never been learned about any yoga pose before, today I buy one yoga mat. It is a little weird why I buy a yoga mat. In fact, I want to use it as a carpet which is laid on the floor in my room. Because cleaning the yoga mat is easier than the carpet. I am a lazy girl. The vacuum cleaner is not necessary in my house due to no carpet on the floor of my house. In addition, I will start to learn yoga now. I can learn yoga from the book or yoga class in school or some of my friends who learned yoga before. I believe that yoga is interesting and full of challenges.

Thanksgiving Dinner and Thanksgiving Jamboree

Thanksgiving day is coming soon. I am looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving day because this is my first time feeling Thanksgiving day here. In my opinion, only the United States of America has this memorial day, and no other countries do. I read some articles about the history of this holiday in my class and I know that President Roosevelt order this day to become the national holiday. The professor introduces some traditional food people usually eat on Thanksgiving day, such as turkey, corn, yams, cranberries and squash. I eat some of these traditional food in Thanksgiving dinner which is hold by Rosa. Rosa invites international students and out-of -state students to enjoy a big dinner and happy reunions. After dinner, I see a amazing show, Thanksgiving Jamboree. There are piano shows, guitar shows and dancing shows. All of the performers play very well. I like the dance troupe most because their pose and action shows the strength and beauty and music convey the emotion. They say a story by dancing and using their bodies. It is a great night.

Frost Valley YMCA

I went to the Frost Valley YMCA for three day with the Project A.I.M on this weekend. I left the school for upsate New York on Friday evening. Before leaving, all of the participators ate together Chinese food as the dinner that Rosa prepared for us. The dinner is as delicious as the food of a five-star restaurant. When we arrived to our detination, the dark sky had been full of the bright stars. The stars there was much clearer and brighter than those in New York City. Next day, I finally saw the Fall view of the Frosr Valley that was beautiful. Most leaves of the trees were gone and the air was fresher. In addition, I had differnet activities and busy schedules everyday, such as icebreaking activity, intercultural diversity sknit, karaoke and team building which was YMCA program. I cooperated with my group to solve any situation and told them my opinions breavely. They all had plenty of tolerance and patience to accept the oppsite thoughts. After three-day retreat, our relationship had become more closely, like a big family. Thus, I would not forget this great trip.

The UN trip

Today I go to the United Nations with the Project A.I.M. It is a little pity that I do not see any flag waving in front of the UN building because today is weekend. I think all flages of the member state waving are spectaclar and attractive. When entering in the building, there is a nice guide intrducing anything about the UN to us. She tell us the histroy of the NU. Although I studied some world histroies six year ago, I almost forgot all. I visit three main councils and see different meaningful pictures on the wall. One picture on the one of the council's wall is abstract. It is like a pizza. In my opinion, the function of the abstract painting may relax the people joining the long meeting. The UN claims not only the peace of world, but also the human rights, the poverty reduction. There are many related organizations which belong to the UN, such as World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and so on. In addition, I know the object of the UN is that make the world a better place. Any decision the UN made can affect the world seriously. No wander the UN take an important role in the world.

The Hallowen Parade

Happy Hallowen! This is my first time joining the Hallowen parade which I have looked forward to seeing. I see that there are a lot of witches, little princess, superman and monsters on the way to Mahattan. The costumes of some people look beautiful and elegant and others are disgusting and frightening. No matter you are a child or an adult, you can wear the characteristic costume of which you are pround. Although the parade start at seven o'clock, I go there earlier in order to chosse a good position to see the parade and take some pictures. It is so crowded and both sides of the road are filled with people. Even so, I see the interesting parade, like a camouflage party. People with horrible make-up, wearing funny fake hair and colthes have confidence to show themselves. The more unique you are, the more visitors you attract. I have stood there for two hours. Even though I feel tired and my legs pain a lot, I like this parade. It is very cool.

Go Shopping

I was going to SOHO on Satursday and wanted to buy ourwears, hats ,scarves and gloves because I am afraid of cold weather. I heard many people said the weather now is not cold enough and it is cool. However, I do not think so. The sound of blowing thruogh the leaves near my house was a horrible voice. In addition, I found that the leaves was starting to leave the tree. When all of the tree become bald, I think the winter is rally coming. Shopping in the SOHO where was a shopping paradise was great. I saw many pretty clothes of famous brands, but I had no courage to buy them because of the expensive price. I just bought a hat at last. If I were a rich woman, I will buy anything without a doubt. My friend, Polly, and I even went to the kids' store to shop. She chose a kid jeans which fitted her and was good looking. We walked whole day and tired. We went to eat dinner together in China town to comfort our hungry stomachs and took a rest. Even though we were tired, we enjoyed it.

A Food Party

I had an interesting party this Friday morningc, and each classmate prepared one characteristic food of his country for this party. The professor prepared Russian food that tasted vey good. Some of my classmates brought drinks and others provided for us with delicious food. I had thought which food was parpared easily and stood for my country's food on Thuredsday. Finally, I dicided to bring some sushi because doing sushin was easy to me. Although sushi is a kind of Japanese food, the flavor is Taiwanese. Thus, I got up early at eight o'clock in Friday morning and prepared anything I need. While cookong rice which took half an hour, I parepared something else, such as egg, tuna, meat, cucumber and so on. And then, I put egg, cucumber and tuna in the rice and wrap the dried laver outside the rice. Making sushi was not really hard, yet I took two hours to do it. There are all kinds of food on the table. For example, one of Asian classmates prepared my favorite food, Chinese Pie with green onion and dumplings. My teacher brought the Russian salad and Russian cookies. All of the food were delicious. We were eating, talking, listening Russian music which was brought by my teacher and taking some picrtures. All of us had a lot of fun during this class.

A Dinner Meeting

Tonight I join a dinner meeting of Project A.I.M which is a international mentoring program. I eat dinner with all of the montors, the metees and Rosa, who is the Assistant Director of Leadership Development & Multicultural Affairs Department of Student Life. In order to know each mentee and talk to us, Rosa hold a dinner meeting to us. The food that is much better than those in cafiteria of school is excellent and delicious . There are mush potato, vegatble, roasted chicken, apple pie, pumpkin pie and soft drink on the desk. After dinner, we have a small meeting because Rosa wants to understand how we have felt in this group for six weeks. If we have any problems or questions aboout our mentors or this group, Rosa will be willing to help us. In fact, most of our mentors are friendly and kind, like our friends, so we have no big problems with them. Moreover, Rosa tell her story and share her experience to us. She give us a thought that what attitude the international students shoud take. I remember one sentence she said," the more difficult you have, the more chaces you are used to this enviornment." She not only encourages us, but also give us confindence to speak out. Thus, I have a great time tonight and I thanks for Rosa, my mentors and the Project A.I.M.

My Midterm Week

Last week is a midterm week. In fact, most of the classes I take this semester dealy one week. So, this week is really my midterm week. One of the midterm of my classes is even dealy to next week. It takes almost three weeks to take some tests. Although I am tired, I think it is just a start because I still have a final trem which is waiting for me in the end of this semester. The midterm is a standard or a signal to students. For one thing, I have a half semester. For another, I know which class I do not understand completely after the midterm. So, I have to pay more attention to the class or talk to the professor to find the solution. Due to the fact that I hate the test, I hope the midterm will end as soon as possbible. In addtion, I am planning one day visiting the Metropolitan Mesum of Art which is the hottest place after the test. While the winter comes, the best way to avoid feeling cold is that to do indoor activities, such as watching movies, seeing the muscials, going to the mesum, etc.. By the way, I will carry out my plans after the midterm. Now, I have to face the music to prepare the test.

Running

I like watch the sport game and I also enjoy doing some exercise, such as running, tennis, badminton, volleyball etc.. I have not exercised for almost two monthes and I am eager to stretch my body. So, I decide to run outside around my house. The weather today is not bad which has sunshine and wind. I wear my red hat,red clothes and red sport pants. I run on the sidewalk and see the adorable house on the both side of the road. Each house has its own characteristic and most of the house have beautiful frontcourt where plant nice flowers or neat grass. For example, the exterior of some houses are like the Mediterranean style and others are like British castles. In addition, the Halloween is coming, I see some families start to decorate their house with many pumpkins to welcome childre. Running is not boring at all. Although the wind is cold, my body is hot and sweat. When the winter comes, I am supposed to go the gym with a variety of equipment in the school. After running, it is a great time to take a hot shower and drink orange juice. Thus, Doing some exercise has lots of advantage. I not only burn my calories, but also strengthen my body.

Enjoy The Sunshine

The weather of New York is chageable in one day. I think it is like a girl because sometime it has a heavy rain with lighting and thunder, and somtimes it is a sunshine day. Now, October, I feel a little clod little by little. It is hard for me to image how cold it will be in New York. There is no sonw in my homecounty and the temperature is nerver below 32 degree Fahrenheit. So, I am afraid of the winter coming. However, I am looking forward to the winter.
This Tuesday, the weather is pretty good. The Sun shine bright and warm. My writing teacher gives a good suggestion to go to the writing class outside. It is cool that sitting on the grass to learn. I enjoy not only the class, but also the sunshine. I can hear the flying voice of a plan and see may people walking by in class, but it is not a big deal at all. After class, I take some time to dry my bottom of my pants because there is a little wet. Despite this, I still have lots of fun.

The Moon

When I walked on the home way after washing all of my dirty clothes on Friday evening, I saw a big circle moon hanging on the East sky. Suddenly I found out that Friday is the Mid-Autumn festival which was one of three important festivals in my home county which each member in the family got together. Sometimes I had BBQ celebration and I had to taste the traditional food, moon cake. The circle moon usually represented round and united. There were lots of legends about the moon in my county. This festival was much more different than before. It was my first time no parent around me to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival. However, I was not alone. I had roommates and classmates to accompany me here. I was surprised that I was also able to eat the traditional food, moon cakes, which were bought by one of my roommate from China town. I did not wait for eating them because I smelt the flavor of the home county. The moon cake decreased my serious homesick. Tonight I had a leisure time eating delicious moon cakes and seeing the round moon on the black sky.

My Fair Lady

I see a greatest musical film called My Fair Lady in my speaking class. I have remembered that my first time to see that musical was six years ago. This movie The plot summary is that the main actor is an English Linguistics Professor who teaches the actress who is a poor and uneducated flower girl how to pronounce and speak properly. The actor even describes the voice of the actress is like animal sound. How terrible it's. The actress did not pronounce correctly and did not speak clearly because of her heavy Cockney accent. And then she practices day and night and finally overcome this problem to become a fair lady. One famous sentnce in the plot says, "the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain." This sentence are composed of one ayllable words and the vowel is much similiar. It is a good sentence to practice pronouncing. Thus, I know why my English teacher recommend this movie to me. I find that the main actress in the moive is Audery Hepburn who is my ideal model forever. She is really beautiful and elegant. I think this characteristic is suitale for her very well. After watching this movie, I highly recommend it and want to buy the DVD of My Fair Lady.

The Statue of Liberty

When listening to the national song of America, which things do you think about? For me, I think about the Statue of Liberty which is one of the most famous view spots in New York. It also can stand for the symbol of the United States of the America. When I decided to study abroad in New York few months ago, I made a decision in my mind that I must went to see the Statue of Liberty at least once in my life. Fortunately, I have a good chance to go there and just spend $5 for one day trip.
I take a ferry form New York Harbor to Statue of Liberty excitedly. The weather is good enough to be able to see the Manhattan skyline on the ferry. I see The Empire State Building and others I do not know the name. The views are spectacular and amazing. Although I often go to the Manhattan, I seldom see the whole Manhattan view. While arriving to the Statue of Liberty, I can not believe my eyes that the Statue of Liberty is virtually in front of me. However, I feel a little disappointed that I do not climb up the pedestal observatory to see the insider’s of the Statue of Liberty because I have no adequate time. So, this short trip induces me to go there again.

Cafe Lalo

I believe that everyone know the movie, You’ve Got Mail, and do not forget the restaurant, Café Lalo, in which the actor and the actress met in the plot. My cousin, Martina, who have completed her master degree in England this year visited me on last weekend before going home. She wanted to go to the only one coffee shop that see in the movie called You’ve Got Mail because that movie is one of her most favorite movies. Martina and I found out the address of the coffee shop and planned to drink a cup of coffee in it to feel the romantic atmosphere. We pretended that we are the actress with a book and a red rose which are like in the film and waited for the actor. Ha! Ha! We were in the daydream.
In addition, I recommended the cake in the coffee shop are delicious. I did not love eating the cake very much because I disliked too much sugar in the dessert. Honestly speaking, I accepted the flavor of the cake in the coffee shop, Café Lalo. I think It was a wonderful dessert restaurant for me.

I am so sad

Today something terrible happens to me. I lost my freshdriver and my wallet in which has some cash, some name cards, my student ID, my credit card, and my debit card. All of the important materials are in my favorite wallet. I feel very disappointed and sad. When I find out my wallet I put in my shoulderbag was lost, I call my bank's customer service to stop using my debit card right away. However, unfortunately, it is almost too late to forbid bad person who take my wallet away secretly to withdrawl my money in my account. I am very worry that wheater I can take my losses back or not. After all, the amount of lost money is huge for me. In addition, I have to stop the credit card, too. Even my student ID does. I have to handle something complicated in person. It is supposed to take me a lot of time to wait and wait. The situation taht I have no enough money is like me when I was new here. Oh!no. How terrible it is. Today is really not my day. Moreover, I tell my parents about my sad story. They are very anxiety about how to deal with it properly and angery that why their daughter still cannot grow up and often make the same mistake. They also comfort me not to be sad anymore and do not happen again next time. After experiening this misery, I get a percious lesson. I think I must take more care of myself and never put the important things in the bag where I may ignore easily.

The Woman Volleyball Gmae

Wow, It is a amazing volleyball game. After finishing all of my today classes, I cannot wait for watching the volleyball game which is my favorite sport. I run fast to the Carnesecca Arena, one of the buildings in school, and quickly choose the best seat. I have heard that my school's basketball team and the volleyball team are the strongest sport teams among the Big East's school. Today I finally see what is the champion look like. No matter how tough strategy the rival take, the school team still have ability to solve it and make a chance to attack. I am so excited that I yell and scream. "Let's go storm" "Go go red storm" I shout out continuously. I am surprised at one thing that one player in volleyball team is my classmate in speaking class. She is tall enough to touch the top of the net easily. She does not have to jump and she jsut stretches her arms. I think I have to congratulate her in person. All of the volleyball players perform wonderful and perfect. At last, my team win without a doubt and serves up A 3-0 sweep of Columbia. Besides, I find that my school has woman volleyball, no man volleyball.Oh! no. What a pity thing.I cannot watch the man volleyball players. It is really a bad news for me. No wonder the number of the male viewers are more than the female one. Anyway, I am very glad tonight.

Women Soccer Game

A week sport schedule on the bulletin board said that there was a 2006 NYC Nike Classic women soccer game, STJ to Columbia, on Friday night and it was free for students of the STJ to join. It seems that it was attractive. Moreover, I had no class at that moment and I wanted to see the soccer game in person, not on television, so I invited a friend to who also like to see sport games very much go to see the game. In the soccer field, there were not many people as I had expected. I could choose the best seat to wait for starting. Although I did not understand the soccer rule clearly, I still enjoyed in it. My eyes focused on the ball from right to left and then from left to right again and again in the field. The most exciting thing was that all of viewers took their breath away when player completed the ball near the gate. In addition, The STJ’s soccer team was more aggressive than Columbia, I thought. I could easily see the STJ’s offense constantly. Sometimes I applauded, and sometimes I signed. At last, STJ won Columbia fortunately, 1:0. Oh, YA! I was proud of my women soccer team. It was a precious experience watching the soccer game.

The Imaginaton of New York City

Few weeks ago, I always thought that what it was like in New York City before going to the America. I have nerver been therer before. I often heard that New York City is filled with all kinds of peoples, like a melt pod or a mixed salad. I hardly imagined how it was look like. Were people in New York City kind or unfriendly? I was a little worried and more excited about my future life of America.

Now I have stayed here, and everything in USA is new and interesting. I see different people from all over the world walking on the fifth Ave, go to the famous Time Square, and take a subway through Manhatan, Queens and Brooklyn. I am surprised that the subway is not as new and beautiful as I expected. I feel that it is not very comfortable when sitting on the subway, and I have to hold the iron pillars tightly and carefully when standing on the subway. I have a little disappointed about the subway. However, I firmly believe that the subway is the best traffic tools to go sightseeing or shopping in New York City. I am happy that I do not need to buy a car that may become my burden to live here.

So, my new life in NY is beginning and I do not have anxiety anymore. Not only have I regarded New York as my second home but I also have prepared to be a New Yorker.
